A pensioner lost his phone in Kilkenny, and an epic search began to get it back to him
EUGENE O’LEARY is a 72-year-old charity fundraiser and trekking fundraiser from Howth, Co Dublin.
Last Friday, he set out on a sponsored ‘buggy push’ from Whitehall in Dublin to Whitegate in Cork, in aid of the Chernobyl Children’s Trust.

He’s been keeping people updated on his journey on his Facebook page – however, when he reached Co Kilkenny yesterday, disaster struck.

Breda Delaney and her family found Eugene’s phone in the middle of the main road outside Gowran, Co Kilkenny, and appealed to his family and friends to help reunite him with it.
Eugene’s friends immediately got to work, using his route keeper to see where he had last checked in:

Breda Delaney continued the search in Kilmaganny, to no avail:

But Eugene was soon traced to Ballyhale, Co Kilkenny:

A few hours later, Eugene was reunited with his phone – and took a delighted selfie with Breda and her family:
